Route Oregano - the herb of joy
Origanum vulgare
Oregano has a piercing
scent and a flavour, which is stronger than
its closest cousin, Marjoram. Oregano is
native to the Mediterranean region and was
cultivated as a strewing herb for ages.
Oregano from various parts of the world
like the European, Chilean, Greek and Mexican
have distinctive characters. The most famous
of them all is the Mediterranean Oregano.
Oregano grown in our farms
are harvested when the plants are in full
flower and when their vitality and flavour
is at the peak. They are then dried using
a unique process.
A
bold and gutsy herb, Oregano's flavour can
be recalled by any Pizza fan. Its use in
the Western countries rose sharply in the
late 20th century due to its peppery bite
and the zing it provides. Oregano is also
widely used in many herb blends and to flavour
delicate tasting foods like egg dishes,
lightly cooked fish and vegetables.
