Route Basil - the kitchen herb
Ocimum Basilicum
Basil is of different
types, however the most popular culinary
variety is the sweet basil, with its refreshing
clove and anise-like aroma. They grow in
most climatic conditions and are used widely
in Mediterranean, North American, Asian
and Australian cuisines.
Basil from our farms are
harvested before they start flowering and
are dried as soon as they are picked, using
a unique process to retain the volatile
oils and clove-like aroma.
Basil
originated in India where it is, till date,
regarded as the sacred herb. It is widely
grown as a kitchen herb and is used as a
seasoning for pizzas, spaghetti sauce, soups,
dressings and salads. In many countries,
it is used as an ingredient in bouquet garni.
